Nunavut Food Security Coalition participates in Hunger Awareness Week

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

During Hunger Awareness Week (September 21-25, 2015), Food Banks Canada and the Nunavut Food Security Coalition encourage Canadians to come together to raise awareness of the solvable problem of hunger in Canada.

The Coalition supports community efforts that improve access to food for those who are most vulnerable to hunger. The Coalition itself focuses on long-term actions at the territorial level that address the root causes of food insecurity. However, the Coalition recognizes that short-term actions at the community level are also needed.

To support this, the Coalition provides special event funding to each community in Nunavut through the Department of Health. So far, initiatives have included prenatal meal bags, elders’ feast, youth cooking program, elders cooking program, “make and take” meal program, and much more.

Communities interested in accessing the special event funding can contact their regional wellness programs coordinator with the Department of Health.
